And I got up early for this……….. So far today, I have fed all the animals at this house, been back to the chicken yard twice to fend off a predator of some sort, given a cat and a dog their meds, hot watered bath the Pizza Sauce I made last night, obliged Gene with setting up new logins and passwords for my Social Security account the SSA requested me to do via email weeks ago, and spent way too much time working on setting up this blog. And let us not forget Wordle in 3.

I check my memories on Facebook every day. Want to know why? Because most days they cause me to stop and be thankful for still being alive and for Gene still being here. One of two things, the man either really loves to work hard and have adventures or he just has the patience of a God. There will be several of these as part of my blog. It is my way of preserving these writings for my future book, “I Left the Holler and the Holler Ways”.

July 26, 2021: It has been a fun day so far. I got up knowing I had more to do today than I can usually get done in 3 days. I have been trying to do laundry, washed eggs, cleaning bathrooms, doing my chicken chores, etc. Went out to the chicken lot and checked on a mama hen sitting on eggs. She had two dead babies in squished eggs. So I got those out of the coop and made her a new nest with the remaining eggs. In the process the top of her coop fell on my face. It knocked my glasses, my favorite pair of glasses, off but didn’t break them. My face hurt pretty bad but I kept going. Then I spotted a bird on the ground fluttering. So what went through my mind, oh no it has the disease killing song birds and it is at my house. I have got to keep up with that bird and when it dies, I have to put it in a plastic bag and take it somewhere. So I need to get back to the house and figure out where dead bird needs to go and I don’t have time…….. And yes that much stuff can got through my thoughts in a split second. Something worth thinking, like molasses. So I go through the grass to get a good look at the bird to see if its eyes are crusted over, etc. and…. If you ever want to see what a flock of Purple Martins mad over you getting too close to a fledgling is like, you should have been with me. They were instantly all around my head and the racket was like being in the movie The Birds. Wow! So I came back to the house and went back to work. No disease here. Just a baby learning to fly. Then I spotted butterflies on the butterfly bushes so I grabbed my camera and ran out to get photos. Lunch time came and Gene came to find me for lunch and asked what happened to my face. I still haven’t looked but he says it is torn up pretty good and lots of dried blood It may be swelling a little since I keep noticing my eye feeling drawn shut. He says we have to go to the grocery store at 5 so I guess I better get rid of my Halloween face by then.

Disclaimer: the title of my blog and potential name for the book has been in the works for years. Totally unrelated to J.D. Vance and/or “Hillbilly Elegy”, which I am now reading. My review will be coming at a later date.
