Some days the memories that pop up make me laugh outloud. Other days I am saddened by the comments from friends who are no longer with me here. Other days I am reminded of how crazy our lives have always been. Two things. 1. Emily and I used to tell Gene if we didn’t love him, we wouldn’t treat him this way. His response was always that he didn’t need this much love. 2. I have always told him if he had not married me, his life would have never been this much fun. Again, he is not convinced it is fun. I just can’t teach that boy a thing.

So here is a memory from when he returned to the office in January 2021, after the Covid year and working from home.

One day back to the office, Hunter Musser and Dana Young. It is as if his aura at home keeps bad things from happening. First, I had a dead pullet when I went out to do my chicken chores yesterday, probably due to lack of water in the Keurig. Ok, chicken bagged and waiting for Gene to come home and bury it. Then about lunch my iPhone hung up. Nothing worked. Two people tried to help. We used the reset sequence and all I got was Siri who can’t turn your phone off. She can only do things she can undo so since she can’t turn it back on, she can’t turn it off. So, no phone. That’s ok! Let’s move on to cooking dinner. Cooked a roast in the instant pot while I was still cleaning bathrooms and putting another coat of polyurethane on the dining room table. Everything fine, then when I added the vegetables and in the middle of working on the phone again, I can hear steam, all the steam escaping from the instant pot. OK, off, remove lid, wiggle seal or gasket or whatever that is, and put it back on. I did fix that issue. Back to cleaning bathrooms and the ground fault is thrown. I just lived without electricity in the bathroom until he got home. I hit it every time I passed by, nothing, same with the phone. Gene supposedly works til 5 but with yesterday’s weather it was getting dark early. So, I called at 5 or so to see if he is on his way home because he has been helping in the chicken yard. No he is still at the office. The last day he worked before retirement he was late coming home because his computer wouldn’t finish something. Promised it would never happen again. Today the same thing. Said to go on and he would join me, which he did. So, it is dark and dead chicken is in feed bag waiting for today hopefully. We get back to the house and he asks if I am going to Verizon and I said no it could wait until today. He picks up my phone and fixes it. He did something but he has no idea what he did but he thinks he can repeat it. lol Wanted me to turn it off and let him try again. No. He moves on to the instant pot which I have fixed but I can’t repeat. Then I remember the ground fault, hit the button and all is well. Gene is in the house! After all this I realize my fitbit will not sync. It has had an update for two weeks that I cannot get to work and now it won’t sync with my phone which he has now fixed. It took an hour and that damn 1password to manage to get the app deleted, reloaded, fitbit synced, etc. And then I said so you worked over today. No! Just my 9 hours. But didn’t you go in at 7? And work to 5? Yes but that is just 9 hours. Oh so you took an hour for lunch. No So do you always work from 7 to 5? I have an excel spreadsheet where I keep my time. Huh! My coffee cup full of coffee was on the table when I got up this morning.
