doesn’t let me forget the craziness that is my life.
I am dealing with a hole in my leg but I have clean hair, I hope. Went out this morning at 6:30 to do my chicken chores and for the upteenth time got flogged by that Lavender Orpington rooster. I bought two pullets, got two roosters. One was mean, the other good. Found a home for the mean one and then the nice one decided to be mean. Gene has knocked him out cold, I have booted him across the hoop house and nothing deters him. I have half drowned him with the hose and no improvement. This morning I was dipping feed out of the garbage can and he got me from behind and above my boots. Ouch! Last week it was through my boot and he still managed to put a hole in my ankle. Gene swears there has to be a hole in my boot but I can’t find it. The soreness and swelling has almost gone out of the ankle and now this hole in the other leg. I beat him all over the hoop house, hobbling on one leg. By the time I got back to the house, the pain had lessened and it was bleeding well so I figured thank God I am always current on my tetanus shot, and maybe the bleeding will clean out all the bacteria. I went on about my business. It is Saturday and I have weeding, planting and mulching to do so does it matter if I have blood all down my leg. Gene and I worked like maniacs, trying to beat the heat, weeded one bed, moved some plants from another bed, took back the three oakleaf hydrangeas from Trumpet vine and then I ran my fingers through my hair. Oh My! Not since I played in the sand pile when I was little has my scalp felt like this. It was covered in something granular and rough. Then I remembered! When the rooster flogged me, I had a scoop of chicken feed in my hand and I threw the scoop. Apparently I threw the scoop straight up in the air. My hair and was full of chicken feed. I held my head upside down and shook it like I had gone mad. Once I knew it was there all concentration was lost. I sent Gene to get a load of mulch and I have bathed and washed my hair a few times. It feels clean and smells clean. Maybe after it dries I should hold it down low for the chickens and see if they peck at any leftovers.
