After several years there were two on my Butterfly Bush in the edge of Shade Bed.
I changed my cover photo to a photo of a Pipevine Swallowtail Butterfly. For the first time in 2 years we have had some Black Swallowtail Butterflies here and found caterpillars on my fennel. Brought 7 caterpillars inside and was able to raise and release 6 adult butterflies. However, it has been several years since a Pipevine Swallowtail has graced our five acres. You can tell this one is nearing the end of her cycle as you look at the more ragged edges and her colors are not as bright. The color of their bodies are different from the Black Swallowtail. To my knowledge I do not have either host plant required for the Pipevine Swallowtail despite ordering Dutchman’s Pipe plants in the past. There is another on its way now for me to try again. So maybe I have neighbors with these plants. If you are more interested in these butterflies, you can read the following.
